In the world of soccer, many figures and names stand out; however, there are many who remember the Swedish footballer and technical coach Sven-Göran Eriksson , who coached the national teams of England, Mexico, Philippines and Ivory Coast, as well as made Benfica of Portugal or Lazio of Italy champions on more than one occasion.
The legend Svennis
Eriksson, also known as “Svennis”, made headlines after revealing his diagnosed illness. A terminal pancreatic cancer was attacking the iconic coach.
It was due to these health complications that Svennis retired from his profession, however, that did not stop him and he wanted to share a little more with those who admired him. This is how, together with Prime Video, the documentary Sven was made, in which his remarkable story and his time in soccer were recounted.
Unfortunate news
Sadly, only a few days after his debut, his family announced his death. At the age of 76, Eriksson had reportedly lost his fight against cancer.
Both on and off screen, he dedicated himself to sharing stories and messages, among which several of his phrases stand out. “So far I am a healthy and sick man. To say I'm not afraid of dying, I guess, is a lie. Sometimes it crosses my mind, but I try not to think about it. Life is also about death, you have to learn to accept it. Hopefully, in the end people will say, 'Yes, he was a good man,' but not everybody will say that. I had a good life,” he stated in his documentary.
It would be even on the same set, with the cameras and microphones off, that he would have shared a message with the team that made more than one cry, according to statements.
Several figures sent a message after Svennis' departure. From FIFA President Gianni Infantino to Prince Williams, they sent words of consolation after hearing the news.
The importance of a message.
Sven-Göran Eriksson's story is just a reminder of how fragile life can be, and how important it is to share our achievements, triumphs, messages and experiences. Our life is precious and deserves to be shared.
